VIOLENT COERCION was a band of East Bay teenagers that started playing in 1983, with their first show at Ruthie's Inn with The F.U.'s and STRANGLEHOLD.

They formed the time period where the San Francisco Bay Area, already with a long Punk Rock history had become an epicenter for touring, local and relocated Hardcore punk bands and ground zero for thrash metal Crossover.  All these sounds percolated to make a distinct East bay hardcore sound and outlook, from the power chord laden thrash and politics of CRUCIFIX, the dark complexity of SOCIAL UNREST, the upfront punchiness of SPECIAL FORCES.

3/4ths of the original line up of VIOLENT COERCION went on to form NEUROSIS, and the thrashy rough edges of their 1985 demo pre-sage the pummelling hardcore attack of Neurosis's 1987 debut album, "Pain Of Mind".

VIOLENT COERCION Began playing live again in 2020 and this nine song new recording is the culmination of live shows, new song writing and re-recordings of four songs from their original "House of Terror" demo. Members previously played in NEUROSIS, ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, DEFACE, KICKER and more. The album is pressed on red splatter vinyl and comes housed in a foldover silkscreened sleeve printed at Monolith press. It includes liner notes from Aaron Cometbus, as well as his East Bay Punk - First Dozen Years poster by Aaron Cometbus, which was also originally included in the reissue of CHRIMPSHRINE. This release also Includes an 8 page insert of old and new flyers and photos.
